Dental implants at Gentle Touch

A dental implant is a small titanium post placed in the jawbone to replace the root of a missing tooth. Once it has healed, a crown, bridge or denture is fixed on top. We plan, place and restore implants at our clinic. Below is who implants suit, the options, how treatment works with us and the approximate fees.

Who dental implants suit

Implants can replace one tooth, several teeth or a full arch. Whether they suit you depends on your gums, your jawbone and your general health. We check these at your consultation.

Implants usually suit adults who:

  • Have one or more missing teeth, or a tooth that cannot be saved
  • Have healthy gums, or have had gum disease treated first
  • Have enough jawbone to hold the implant (or can have a bone graft)
  • Are in good general health, with any medical conditions under control
  • Can keep up daily cleaning and regular check-ups
  • Have finished jaw growth (usually from the late teens onwards)

Some people need extra steps first

Not enough boneA bone graft, or a sinus lift for upper back teeth, may be needed before or during implant placement. This adds time and cost.
DiabetesBlood sugar should be well controlled, as this helps healing. We may ask for recent sugar reports and check with your physician.
Smoking or tobacco useSmoking slows healing and raises the risk of implant problems. Stopping or cutting down before and after treatment is strongly advised.
Gum disease or certain medicinesGum disease is treated first. Tell us if you take blood thinners or medicines for bone density.

Implant options

The right option depends on how many teeth are missing, the bone available and your preferences. We will explain what suits your mouth.

Single tooth implant

One implant replaces one missing tooth. A crown is fixed on top once the implant has healed. The teeth on either side are not trimmed.

Suits: one missing tooth, front or back

Implant-supported bridge

Two or more implants hold a fixed bridge that replaces several teeth in a row, so you need fewer implants than missing teeth.

Suits: two or more missing teeth side by side

Implant-supported dentures / full mouth

For people missing all or most teeth in a jaw. A few implants hold a denture that either clips on and off for cleaning or is fixed in place, so it moves less than a regular denture.

Suits: no teeth, or loose dentures, in one or both jaws

Implants we use

Implant systems we use: Straumann®, Neodent® and more

Dr S. Barath Kumar places implants from established implant systems at our clinic, including Straumann® and Neodent®, along with other implant systems. We choose the system that suits your bone, the position of the tooth and your treatment plan.

Straumann® is a Swiss company, headquartered in Basel, that has made dental implants for decades and is among the most widely used implant brands worldwide. Neodent® is a Brazilian implant maker that is part of the Straumann Group. Both are backed by clinical research.

We use genuine components, so parts such as abutments and crowns are designed to fit the implant system. Each patient receives the implant details for their records.

Ask us which implant option suits your case; implant brand and type affect the fee.

Your implant journey, step by step

We carry out every stage of implant treatment at Gentle Touch Dental Clinic, from the first consultation to fitting the final crown and your follow-up check-ups. This is how it usually goes for a single implant. Timings can be longer if an extraction or bone graft is needed first.

    Aftercare & check-ups

We show you how to clean around the implant and see you for regular check-ups and professional cleaning.

What to expect on the day

  • Eat a normal meal beforehand and take your regular medicines unless we advise otherwise. Tell us about any blood thinners or diabetes medicines.
  • We go over the plan with you again and answer your questions before we begin.
  • The area is numbed with local anaesthesia. You stay awake and usually feel pressure and vibration rather than sharp pain.
  • A single implant usually takes about an hour in the chair; more implants or a graft take longer.
  • We give you written aftercare instructions and any prescribed medicines before you leave. Most people can go home the same day and many return to desk work the next day.

After your implant surgery: the first 24–48 hours

  • Bite gently on the gauze for the time we advise if there is oozing. Slight bleeding and swelling are common.
  • Hold a cold pack on the cheek, 10 minutes on and 10 off, during the first day.
  • Take medicines exactly as prescribed.
  • Have soft, cool or lukewarm food and chew on the other side. Avoid very hot food and drinks until the numbness wears off.
  • Do not spit forcefully, use a straw, smoke or drink alcohol.
  • Brush your other teeth gently; start salt-water or prescribed rinses from the next day, as advised.
  • Rest and avoid heavy exercise for a day or two.

Call us on +91 98840 15026 if bleeding does not settle, swelling keeps increasing after the second or third day, or you develop a fever.

Implant vs bridge vs denture

Long-term care and how long implants last

Everyday care, long term

  • Brush twice a day and clean around the implant with floss or small interdental brushes. We will show you how.
  • Keep regular check-ups and professional cleaning with us, so small problems are found early.
  • If you grind your teeth, ask us about a night guard.
  • If you smoke, stopping helps protect the gum and bone around the implant.

How long do implants last?

Implants are a long-term way to replace teeth, and with good home care and regular check-ups many people keep them for many years. They are not guaranteed to last forever.

The crown on top can wear or chip and may need replacing over time. The gum and bone around an implant can become inflamed (peri-implantitis), much like gum disease around natural teeth. Smoking, uncontrolled diabetes, tooth grinding and poor cleaning raise these risks.

Contact us promptly if you notice

  • Swelling, pus or bleeding around the implant
  • Pain that gets worse instead of better
  • An implant or crown that feels loose
  • Fever after treatment
FAQ

Dental implant questions

Am I suitable for a dental implant?

Most adults with a missing tooth, healthy gums and enough jawbone can be considered for an implant. Uncontrolled diabetes, heavy smoking, untreated gum disease or low bone may mean extra steps are needed first. We decide together after an examination and X-ray at our clinic, and a 3D scan if needed.

Does getting a dental implant hurt?

The area is numbed with local anaesthesia, so most people feel pressure rather than pain during placement. Some soreness and swelling for a few days afterwards is common and is usually managed with the medicines we prescribe. A single implant usually takes about an hour at our clinic.

How long does dental implant treatment take?

For a single implant, the bone usually needs about 3 to 6 months to heal around the implant before the final crown is fitted. The total time can be longer if an extraction, bone graft or sinus lift is needed first. We give you a timeline for your case at the planning visit.

Are dental implants done at your clinic?

Yes. We carry out implant treatment at our clinic, from the consultation, X-ray and planning to placing the implant, fitting the abutment and crown, and follow-up check-ups.

Which implant brands do you use?

We place Straumann®, Neodent® and other implant systems, choosing the one that suits your case. We explain the implant brand and type, the alternatives and the fee before treatment, and give you the implant details for your records.

How much does a dental implant cost?

At Gentle Touch Dental Clinic, a dental implant is approximately ₹35,000 to ₹42,000, and a premium implant system approximately ₹55,000 to ₹65,000. This is for the implant only; the abutment and crown are charged separately, and a bone graft or sinus lift is extra if needed. The exact fee is confirmed only after a consultation and examination.

How long do dental implants last?

With good home care and regular check-ups, many implants last for many years, but no implant is guaranteed to last forever. The crown on top may need replacing over time, and the gum and bone around an implant can become inflamed if it is not kept clean. Smoking, uncontrolled diabetes and tooth grinding raise the risk of problems.

Can I get an implant if I have diabetes or I smoke?

Often yes, with care. Blood sugar should be well controlled before and after treatment, and we may ask for recent sugar reports. Smoking slows healing and increases the risk of implant problems, so stopping or cutting down is strongly advised. We will discuss your individual risk with you.

What if I don't have enough jawbone?

A bone graft can add bone where it is needed, and a sinus lift can make room for implants in the upper back jaw. These add time and cost. In some cases a bridge or denture may be a more suitable option, and we will explain the choices.
